Thanks for the Great Season

Thank you to EVERYONE for the fantastic Cotton States High School League Fall season!!

And congratulations to the Thunder who fought their way through the LCS as the wildcard to win the championship 6-4 over the SwampMonsters.

We are looking forward to this spring as you compete for your local high schools and we wish all of you the best of luck - hope to see you again next July!!!!

LCS and All-Star Games This Sunday

The Cotton States High School League Championship Series (LCS) will be played this Sunday at 1:30 and 4:00 and our All-Star Games will be played simultaneously at 1:30.

Congratulations to the Lakers, SwampMonsters, RedWasps, and Thunder who all advanced to the semi-finals at 1:30 on the Pony Field and Legion Field. The two winners will advance to a LCS Championship Game at 4:00 on Legion Field.

We will also recognize the 2011 Cotton States High School League All-Stars from the other 11 teams who will be divided into four teams and play on Fields 7 & 8 at 1:30 before having the opportunity to watch the LCS Championship Game at 4:00 on Legion Field.

Games Cancelled for Sunday

Because we were cancelled by the rain, we will move last Sunday's schedule to next Saturday (using our usual game times of 10:30 and 1:00) and those games originally scheduled for Saturday to Sunday, October 30th (game times of 1:30 and 4:00).

As we start to wind down the 2011 Cotton States High School League Fall season, let us begin by saying "Thank You" for the fantastic season that we have been able to enjoy!!

We are excited to announce that we will be offering the opportunity to play in an All-Star type event on November 6th. The coaches will select players from the other teams and we will then distribute them among 4 teams that will play at 1:30 while the semi-finals are being played on the other two fields. If your team is in the playoffs, you will not be eligible.

A note about the playoffs - we will be using the MLB rule that states a Wild Card team cannot play their first round game against a team from the same division.

Also, we hope to have t-shirts and team pictures for sale this Sunday at a nominal cost. We will have the ALFA Insurance tent set up near the concession stand for your convenience. Pictures are also available on our Facebook page at www.facebook.com/cottonstateshighschoolleague.

In case we get so busy toward the end that we don't have an opportunity to say it, thanks again for a great season and we hope that you are already making plans to join us next July and next Fall!!!!

Schedule Notes

Please make sure that you pay attention to the schedule as published on this website. We often have to make corrections after we have already e-mailed or given someone a copy of the schedule and the only way to disseminate the new information to everyone is through the website. In case of a conflict between a printed schedule and the website, always go with the website - we update it first.

Play Begins This Sunday!!!

We are excited about Opening Day of the 2011 Cotton States High School Fall season this Sunday!!! Every team will play at either 1:30 or 4:00 on Sept 11th. With 15 teams, we have decided to use a 3 division format with divisional rivals playing each other two times and then playing two teams from each of the other two divisions during the course of the 12 game season.

We are excited to be adding several new faces to our coaching staffs, including David Renfroe (pictured above) of the Boston Red Sox organization, Hunter Mize and Blake Jolly of the Blue Mountain College baseball team, and Gary Darby, former Ole Miss radio broadcaster and long time coach and umpire.

Enter Our Divisional Naming Contest

We have had such a wonderful response to the league that we are busy trying to create the art work for 4 new teams!!!! As a 14 team league, we will use a divisional format to help us determine who advances to the season-ending playoff round. But we need your help naming the two divisions!!

Please e-mail us your nomination for the two divisional names!!! The person who submits the names that are chosen will win a $25 gift card to The Shak BBQ restaurant!!!

News and Notes

We had a GREAT July Season and are looking forward to an even better Fall Season. We will start playing the second Sunday in September - every team should get a game in that day. It will be the third weekend in September before we will be able to play a full schedule where everyone will have a double-header on Saturday and/or Sunday. We will still have time to get 12 games in for every team and have some sort of playoff by the end of October.

Please bear with us as we are waiting on our graphic artist to design the logos for our four new teams and then we will have to add their pages to our website before we can actually show players on those teams and put up the schedule.

Applications for Fall Season Due August 5th

Applications for new players are due by August 5th - this will allow us an opportunity to arrange the teams, order uniforms, and write the schedule for September and October. Remember we only play on Saturdays and Sundays during the Fall and we won't play on any Saturday that Ole Miss or Miss State have a home football game.

Players in the July Season do not have to send in a new application - just tell your coach that you are planning on playing or shoot us an e-mail through the website.

CSHS League All-Star Game/Players Clinic

The Cotton States High School League is having a July Season-ending All-Star game on August 6th at 1:00 and 3:30. As a part of this, we would like to invite all prospective Cotton States Junior High and High School players to a Cinic/Camp to be held that morning. Coaches from our college league will put players through a 3 hour session emphasizing proper hitting techniques, defensive drills, and base-running. Cost is $20 for players registered to play in either the July season or the Fall Season; $25 for non-Cotton States players. All participants will receive free admission to the All-Star game - all we need is a head count by next Thursday (just drop us an e-mail) so that we can set up the appropriate number of stations and make sure we have enough coaches on hand!!
